I was inspired by this pattern I seen on unsplash, which reminded me of a more organised version of organic shapes present on wildlife, especially rainforest frogs.
I thought I could create my fifth element design based on the pattern but also inspired by the frog patterns.
This type of inspiration coming from nature, will help the visuals feel more organic and allow the user to feel a sense of calm and connection as they would feel when in nature.
The target audience of young professionals spends a lot of time in front of their screens, especially those with multiple jobs, therefore a connection to nature would help them feel more enthusiastic about spending time on my workspace app versus other competitor’s.
I created these pattern variations by first creating a simple gradient for the background. I then used elements from the logo mark to create the pattern itself. i did this in order to keep brand consistency throughout all of the design elements used within coLAB branding.
To create consistent and even designs I used the grid repeat tool in Adobe Illustrator. This is my first time discovering and using this tool, and it made creating the pattern a lot easier than it would be doing it by hand. It also creates even spacing unlike hand made patterns. I added the grid repeat to the ovals and circles seperately so I could try out a few variations of the pattern. The first 4 designs gave the impression of eyes to me and a seperate individual I asked for feedback, this wasn’t what I was going for as it gives off a sense of unease. Therefore, I moved on to create a few more variations.
I over layed the patterns over the gradient for elements of the app, like the banner of the profile section.
